Mrs Cooper, Miss Richardson, Mrs Goulding, Mrs Martin and Madame Slater welcome you all to the Autumn term in Year 5.
Mrs Martin will be teaching RE and Music. Madame Slater will be teaching French. Mrs Goulding will be working alongside both classes, supporting and encouraging the children’s learning and understanding.
We are looking forward to an exciting Autumn term. There will be a lot of learning and a lot of fun.
Our first topic is World War 2, during this topic we will be visiting Eden Camp and the theatre to see Goodnight Mister Tom, which is also the first book we will be reading as a class. After half term we will be looking at The Diary of Ann Frank and My Secret War Diary.
Throughout science sessions during the Autumn term we will be concentrating on light.
We will be making Anderson Shelters and WW2 toys during our Design & Technology lessons. Art sessions will involve looking at and creating drawings in the style of Van Gough and producing a colour wheel.
Literacy topics throughout the Autumn term will cover; recounts, historical fiction, newspaper reports and diary writing. The children will learn about these different genres and how to choose the appropriate grammatical features for each one.
Maths topics during the Autumn term with focus on; place value, addition & subtraction, statistics, multiplication & division and perimeter & area.
