Welcome to Class 1's page. 

Over the term we will share with you some of the exciting activities that we get up to.  We work hard, but have lots of fun.

Working in Class 1 are:   Mrs Burrell, Miss Whitford and Miss Dawson.

This term our Topic is 'Sounds and Our Five Senses'. 

We will share photos of our activities and work on this page. 

Home Learning for Tuesday 5th January 2021

Reception

Recap all phase 3 sounds learnt so far: sh, ch, ng, th  Can you spot any items in your house that have these sounds in them?

Practice reading the following words and then trying to write them by listening to the sounds. 

shop, shed, shut, ship, fish

chop, chip, chin, much, such

thin, thick, moth, bath. 

Practice carefully writing your name, thinking about where to start your letters.

Topic/ Afternoon Activity Reception and Year 1

Our Activity today is to be a winter detective, Can you look outside for signs of winter? 

Have a go at writing down any things you spot to show that it is winter. Use you phonic fingers to help you spell some of the words independently. 

 

Year 1

Phonics: Re cap all of the phase 5 shounds previously taught: ph, wh, ay, a_e, ea, e_e,. Have a go at reading/ segmenting (writing)  the words from your blue book. 

This week's new sound 'oy' the children already know 'oi' so 'oy' will be an alternate  digraph fopr them. 

Read the following: joy, boy, toy, enjoy, loyal, oyster, destroy, annoy, annoyed.

Chose three of these words and put them into a sentence, remembering your pencil pot skills: Capital letter, full stop, letters on the line, start your letters in the right place!

 

Literacy

Write a thank you letter to a family member/ friend or to Father Christmas for a Christmas present. Remember the 'ear' sound in the word 'dear'.

Reception

Phonics 

Re-cap the 'ee' sound  and words from yesterday. 

Ask children to draw a picture of something with the 'ee' sound in it and caption it. eg 'The sheep' 

See real or fake words worksheet below. Colour in the words red or green to show if they are real or fake. Fake words can be cut out and put in the bin!

Afternoon activity- Reading Skills.

Have a look through your favourite book at home and see if you can spot any of the following tricky words: the, I, no, go, to, he, she.   

 

Year 1 

Phonics

Now that we all recognise the new 'oy' sound, lets have a go at spotting them in the phome spotter postcard. If you can print the worksheet off highlight all the words that contain the 'oy' sound and then count up to see how many you spotted! 

When we check in for our meetings, let me know which 'oy' words you found.  If you find any new words write them neatly into your blue magpie book on the 'oy' page. 

Literacy

Write a description of today's pobble picture as you normally do in your morning job book. Remember your pencil pot skills and any targets I gave you last term when we looked at your writing in the cabin.  When we check in this afternoon I will read the description of the picture to you all.

Afternoon Activity- Reading Skills

On Thursday afternoon we do reading skills where we read through a text together and then talk about the different parts of the text. From next week this will take the format of a video lesson on Teams. Just for today, share your favourite story book with an adult and then recount to them what happened in the story. Can you show them where the book's following parts are?

In our afternoon check in feel free to bring your book to talk about and we will see if we can identify the different features.

Match the words to the pictures of the worksheet below. Carefully write in the word with a pencil, taking care to keep your letters on the line. 

When we meet for our check in, bring your sheet with you and we will go through it together.

Handwriting- Complete the first page of the handwriting sheets 'Curly caterpillar letters' c and a. Take care to start the letters in the right place and go round in the right direction. Follow the catterpillar!

Recap the 'oy' words from earlier in the week.  Can you remember any words that use this sound?

Complete the worksheet below and bring it when we meet for our check-in, you can use it to help you play naughts and crosses with the 'oi' and 'oy' sound.

New Sound ‘or’

Recap previous sounds: sh,ch,ng,th,ee.
Introduce new sound ‘or’ and practice the action that goes with it- donkey ears saying ‘ee-or’.
Have a go at reading the following words which contains the ‘or’ sound in the following way: f-or =for

In the mid-morning check in I will play ‘Flower Power with the children to help consolidate recognition of the ‘or’ sound.

 

Year 1

Phonics

Recap the following sounds from the blue book: ph, wh, ay, a_e, ea, e_e, ey and oy.

New sound: ‘ir’  This sound goes with ‘er’ and ‘ur’ which the children already know from last year.

On a new page in your blue book put the ‘er’ ‘ur’ and ‘ir’ sounds together like previous word families have been.

Have a go at reading the following words now you know the ‘ir’ sound. Which part of the word does the ‘ir’ sound go? Middle? End?

This week we are practicing basic writing and sentence skills using the Pobble pictures to get used to remote learning in this way. Next week we will start a Talk for Writing Literacy unit.
