Mrs Helen Sanderson (Chair of Governors)
Helen was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire and has lived in Swanland give or take a couple of years since she was 7.
She has three children, all of whom are at Swanland School. She was herself a pupil at Swanland Primary School.
She has worked for Humberside Police for 25 years beginning as a clerk/typist at Hessle Police Station in 1988 and working her way up to being a Manager of a Centralised Crime Input Bureau based at Queens Gardens Police Station in 1994. This was a new department where she was heavily involved in the recruitment, subsequent training and then development of the bureau.
In 2001 she took the step of joining as a police officer and has never looked back. She has been extremely fortunate to have worked in various departments from Family Protection to Major Incident Teams dealing with Homicide and Cold Case Reviews. The majority of her service was in Scunthorpe and surrounding areas and with the Major Incident Team she worked most of the force area. She is a fully qualified CID officer and Family Liaison Officer which involves dealing with families affected by homicide.
Helen was promoted to Sergeant in 2009 and since that time has been based at Goole Police Station working full time shifts as a front line Incident Response supervisor, often covering half, if not all of the East Riding of Yorkshire!
She would love to tell you what she does in her spare time, but when she's not at work and with her family, generally she sleeps!
Helen is very much looking forward to being involved with the school and working as a Parent Governor and hopes that the skills she has acquired throughout her life will be an asset.
