Pecuniary Interest

Please click here to a list of Governor and Trustee pecuniary interests.

Mr Mick Farr

Michael (but better known as Mick) moved to Swanland in February 2014. Mick was born in Leeds and has lived in several locations within the UK and overseas. He is a parent governor and both his youngest children attend the school. He works in the electricity supply industry and currently manages the largest gas fired power station in the Yorkshire region.

Mick hopes that his technical background, management of health and safety risks, and human resource issues will assist in a healthy challenge to the school team whilst remaining a firm school advocate and supporter of continued improvement.

Mr Chris Huscroft

Chris was brought up in Goole and attended Hook Primary School and then Vermuyden Secondary School. He went on to study for four years at St Martin’s College Lancaster, where he gained his BA with QTS (Qualified Teaching Status). Throughout his time at St Martin’s, Chris retained strong links with schools in the East Riding. When Chris qualified he returned to Cottingham where he had completed a teaching placement, to take up his first full-time teaching post. He now calls Cottingham home having lived there for the past nine years.

In 2009 and after six years of teaching in Cottingham, Chris was appointed as the Deputy Headteacher here at Swanland Primary. Throughout his time here he has taught in Year Five and worked with classes across Key Stage Two, providing PPA cover for their teachers. He has also been the subject leader for maths and having a real passion for curriculum design spends a lot of time working with staff and children to ensure that the curriculum continues to be as ‘outstanding’ as it always has been. Chris played a key management role in the smooth transition to Academy Status in 2011.  In 2014, Chris was appointed as Executive Head Teacher for the Swanland Education Trust.

Outside of school Chris spends a lot of time with friends and family. He enjoys eating out, trying new foods, getting out and about on walks and visiting his family holiday home in Marbella, Spain.

Mrs Sally Patrick

Sally trained at University College Chester and qualified with a BEd Hons; she specialised in Geography and Primary Teaching.  Her first teaching role was at an Outstanding school in Goole and she then joined Swanland Primary School seven years ago, where she has since taught in Year 3.  Initially, Sally had responsibilities for ICT, which developed into a Middle Leader Role for Knowledge and Understanding of the World when Curriculum 2014 was put into place.  She recently became Assistant Head with the role of developing the curriculum across the school.

Sally also has two children at the school and lives in the village.

Mrs Helen Sanderson (Chair of Governors)

Helen was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire and has lived in Swanland give or take a couple of years since she was 7.

She has three children, all of whom are at Swanland School.  She was herself a pupil at Swanland Primary School.

She has worked for Humberside Police for 25 years beginning as a clerk/typist at Hessle Police Station in 1988 and working her way up to being a Manager of a Centralised Crime Input Bureau based at Queens Gardens Police Station in 1994. This was a new department where she was heavily involved in the recruitment, subsequent training and then development of the bureau.

In 2001 she took the step of joining as a police officer and has never looked back. She has been extremely fortunate to have worked in various departments from Family Protection to Major Incident Teams dealing with Homicide and Cold Case Reviews. The majority of her service was in Scunthorpe and surrounding areas and with the Major Incident Team she worked most of the force area. She is a fully qualified CID officer and Family Liaison Officer which involves dealing with families affected by homicide.

Helen was promoted to Sergeant in 2009 and since that time has been based at Goole Police Station working full time shifts as a front line Incident Response supervisor, often covering half, if not all of the East Riding of Yorkshire!

She would love to tell you what she does in her spare time, but when she's not at work and with her family, generally she sleeps!

Helen is very much looking forward to being involved with the school and working as a Parent Governor and hopes that the skills she has acquired throughout her life will be an asset.

Miss Hannah Stephenson

Hannah was born in East Yorkshire and attended school in Lockington and Beverley.  After school she attended Bishop Grosseteste University College in Lincoln to do her teacher training qualification achieving a BSc Hons in Science with QTS for the Primary Age.

Following university, Hannah worked in Hull as a teacher for 6 years before leaving to carry out a volunteer project in Malawi before travelling in Australia and New Zealand for 6 months.

When she returned from travelling she joined Swanland Primay School as a classroom teacher.  After 3 years, she became a member of the Senior Leadership Team and then in April 2016 was appointed as Head of School when she also became a member of the Local Governing Body.

Mrs Suzi Storr

Suzi grew up in Sproatley, East Yorkshire and attended school there and in Preston.  Following on from a BA Hons degree in Applied Social Science, Suzi completed a Primary PGCE at the University of Hull. She spent several years teaching in Hull, leading the Curriculum for PE and ICT in school.  Beginning her teaching career with a Year 6 class, Suzi taught all age groups within Key Stage Two and also took the opportunity to gain experience in Key Stage One and EYFS.

Following several years of teaching, Suzi spent a year with the Hull City Council Health in Schools team, working as a Health in Schools Consultant, supporting schools in their delivery of PSHE and policy development, delivering training to school staff, working with health data for the city and further developing her own passion for pupil health and wellbeing.

Suzi began to work at the University of Hull in 2013 as a Partnership Area Tutor within Teacher Education.  This involves working with schools and trainees during school placement periods, delivering PSHE workshops and support tutorials. In 2016, Suzi also became the Year 2 School Experience Co-ordinator, managing and supporting Year 2 Undergraduate students whilst on their teaching placements. Suzi’s particular academic interests are focused around child health and wellbeing as a pre-requisite for successful education and personal achievement.

Suzi has two daughters, the eldest of whom attends Swanland Primary School. Her spare time is spent with family and friends and taking her girls to various local activity clubs.

Mrs Claire Taylor

Claire moved to Swanland in 2011 having lived in East Yorkshire all her life.  Both Claire’s sons attend Swanland Primary School and she was appointed as a Parent Governor in 2015.

Claire is a Chartered Accountant and, after qualifying with a local accountancy firm in 2000, has spent many years working within the accountancy and finance training sector providing experience which she hopes can be used to ensure this aspect of the Academy Trust operates efficiently and effectively.
