Roles of those involved

The Inclusion Team at Swanland Education Trust includes a number of key people each with different roles and responsibilities.

Role of the Class Teacher

The responsibilities include:

Class teachers plan lessons according to the specific needs of all children in their class.  They use a variety of groupings, learning styles, a range of activities and resources to support children in making progress.  They are creative with the use of teaching assistants to ensure that children are supported effectively, whilst still developing independence. 

If they feel that a child is not making progress they will plan in class interventions to support progress.  The class teacher will closely monitor the outcomes of the interventions.  They will liaise with you, regarding any support in place for your child. 

If the teacher feels that they need advice to further support your child’s learning they will communicate with the Inclusion Team.  The class teacher would talk to you about the outcome of this.

Role of the Inclusion Team

The responsibilities include:

·         Making sure that all staff understand and follow the inclusion policy.

·         Assessing pupils

·         Developing programmes of work for pupils

·         Co-ordinating the provision of resources for pupils with additional needs

·         Liaising with and giving advice to fellow teachers

·         Making sure the right paperwork is completed for each child

·         Working in partnership with parents, offering support, advice and signposting support

·         Facilitate SEND developments in school, including staff training

·         Liaising with external agencies, LEA support services, Health and Social Services, and voluntary bodies

·         Carry out observations of interventions and classroom practice

·         Ensuring the head teacher and governors have an overview of SEND within school

Role of the Head Teacher

The Head Teacher’s responsibilities include:

·         The day-to-day management of all aspects of the school including provision including budgetary control

·         Keeping the Governing Body informed about inclusion within the school

·         Ensuring the school has clear and flexible strategies for working with parents, and that these strategies encourage involvement in their child’s education.

Role of the Governing Body

The Governing Body’s responsibilities to pupils with additional needs include:

·         Ensuring that high standards of provision are made for pupils

·         Ensuring that a ‘responsible person’ is identified to liaise with all those involved with teaching and supporting pupils with a statement of SEN

·         Ensuring that pupils with additional needs are fully involved in school activities

·         Applying the Code of Practice when carrying out these responsibilities

·         Being fully involved in developing and reviewing the inclusion policy

·         Reporting to parents on the school’s inclusion policy including the allocation of resources from the school’s budget
